Because Marvel needed to sell books !!!! What better way to sell comics then to kill a beloved character everyone loves.
Besides they want him to have a new start...they will relaunch Captain America again..but just in time for opening weekend when the character gets his own movie...(Hopefully they will get great actors..unlike the way Ironman is shaping out) !!!!!

I think it SUCKS. Captain America was one of the REAL good guys. He fought for what was right and he played a major part in World War 2. Although Marvel would probably bring him back but killing him in the first place is WRONG. He and Spider man are my idols. Cap rallied heros to fight to keep their identities and even brought Spidey to join the "Rebels". He freed the heros from the negative zone. He could have beaten Iron Man and his side of the conflict, but he didn't because he didn't want anymore bloodshed. What does he get in return? A sniper killed him!

Uhmmm..... Possible spoiler alert: In Civil War: the Initiative it is said by Carol Danvers that Cap (Steve Rogers) is actually tucked away in The Raft.
Then again this info did come from the Wikipedia entry for Captain America.

through out the history of "Captain America" , the man wearing the costume has been killed and come back in one form or other, . remember that rogers has been dead before and come back,

I think its a bad time to do that concidering the War is going on since Capt America was a symbol of American Resolve-some people have no pride Really!!

Steve Rogers has indeed "died" before-shortly after he revealed his identity to the public, he faked his own death in a battle(Hydra or Red Skull can't remember) and the general public assumed him dead.Of course he resumed being Cap almost immediately.
