I have been approached by some new moms that have wanted a layaway program to purchase baby furniture. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it's a good idea to offer layaway for baby furniture?

Absolutely! Baby furniture can be expensive and that would be a great incentive for many people.

Absolutely! It's not cheap to buy any furniture. Allowing parents to put it on layaway helps them stretch out the expense so they can more easily afford all the others items a new baby requires.

As a business owner, it's not going to hurt you. If the product goes on layaway and the person doesn't return it, you're not out anything. Just make sure you have a clear policy regarding terms and I think it would be fine.

Yes! Baby furniture can be so expensive and it's daunting to new parents, on top of all the other expenses like diapers and such. Layaway is a great idea.

Yes, it is a great idea and good business sense. Not only does it mean that new parents can pick out a set they truly love, they will ultimately spend more money on a better set as they have more time to pay for it. I would make sure that you have a fair cancellation program as well. Unfortunate things still happen even with today's medical advances.

Absolutely! It's expensive and not everyone can afford to put it on credit or pay for it right away. Therefore payment plans are awesome. I did this at Wal-Mart all the time. Sadly, they don't have layaway anymore.

Most places do. Many parents do not want any baby furniture in the home before the birth is is considered bad luck. With lay away you can pick out the stuff you want but still not bring it home until the baby is born.
