He might get offended if you confront him upfront. Sometimes, people just want to say/narrate/explain a situation wholly so that no detail is missed out. They usually think that you might not get the picture if they leave out something. Tell him to slow down, and reiterate that you can understand what he means even with just a few words. Tell him tactfully to develop this talent of condensing many thoughts into as few words as possible, without sacrificing precision. You know, it is possible.

Are you sure you're not just as much a motor mouth? Some men I know use talk to keep from being trapped into being a motor mouth. Some unfortunately get into this habit and forget why they
started it! Other men may be talkative cause people don't give them enough attention otherwise! If you're not at fault then get angry and say something serious and important. Sorry there's no other way I know to shut up a motor mouth! I know I am one!

Unfortunately this seems to be his personality and his family is probably a bit like this as well. I am very much an orator as well and when I know that people do not want to talk to me, I take it as a rejection of my whole fabric of my personality. You can tell him, but he may take the opposite approach and say nothing at all. Then you will have a real problem because he may just avoid you because he will not know when it is acceptable to talk to you.

I am a very talkative female. We do this because it is how we process all of our thoughts. We can't process them unless they come out our mouth. Drives my daughter crazy she is now 28 and on her own for 10 years. For both of your sakes, take the online $5 Myers Briggs test and it will really really help and will lead you to all kinds of ideas on better communication, one not being better than the other, just very different.

Sounds like he is getting on your nerves. You picked him. Now is the time to tell him how you feel, tell him you would enjoy some silence sometime, how it is getting on your nerves. If he wants to please you, he will stop it. I have a friend like that, I know exactly what your talking about. when I told my friend about the to much verbal thing, he stopped.
