caning is not recognized in the U.S.A. We know of other countries that do it though. They only jail ya here. And for the most part they don't even keep the right ones in jail. There isn't really any kind of harsh punishment around. So as far as doing this to a child? NO WAY. If we even thought about that we'd be in jail for child abuse. They are trying to pass a law right now in California about not being able to spank a child under 3 years of age. That's insane. I think a good smack on the ask never really hurt anybody and they sure learned from it.

No. The eighth amendment, which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment would regard this as excessive, especially for juveniles. Juveniles get "kiddie court" as is because of their age and maturity level but honestly, I don't think it would be such a bad idea. Humiliation and a swift caning 4 or 5 times may deter future delinquency.

No it is not legal its a crime and punishable by law....although many say that it is much needed for this new society of disrespectful youths. But most fail to realize that they are a minority of delinquents, their actions do not support the need for the majority who are well mannered and go-getter's. This outweighs the need for any such notion or action. Parents involvement in their children's life is what is missing in a lot of family settings today. And this is the result of this youth crime increases, to punish all youths unjustly for someone else's deeds, does not address the core problem, POOR PARENTING!!

Edit>>> At one time probably more in the late 60's and 70's, and up to early mid 80's the use of wooden paddle discipline was used in almost all States in the Union, for the unruly students in school. But, it later was banned for the abuse by school officials, that ranged from excessive brutality to sexual deviant behavior.

No. At least not officially. Parents can still spank their kids, but it's getting harder all the time.

But caning definitely should be a punishment. It seems to work well in other places...and doesn't cost the taxpayers mega-bucks to keep people in jails.

No, lol! Not unless there is some stipulation for that in private schools (religion oriented most likely), but no...public schools can't do anything of the sort.

Even when corporal punishment was allowed, I don't recall 'caning' ever being used in my lifetime. Paddles...yes.

No, We aren't allowed to even touch our kids or we will be arrested and thrown in jail for child abuse. We are only allowed legally to put them in a time out. Like that works???!!!
