I was in an accident. I was 39 at the time of the accident . I have had 3 surgeries with the last one fusing my spine in 2 different places. My Dr's have said I will never be able to work again. Why did it take 2 years and 2 denials before I had to go infront of a federal Judge. Once he saw my MRi's and list of opoid meds I am on he granted my disability on the spot. But it took 2 denials and eachtime the soc. sec would state its because I was 39 and 40 years old. Why dont they just look at the disability and grant it for people who really need it. What are people supposed to do with no income? Then once I found out I got soc sec they said there is a 6 month wait period so Idont get backpay from the day I applied.

I am sorry to hear this. It should not have taken that long. Sometimes it really seems like the people who need it the most and the fastest have to wait and re-apply over and over again. But if u were a alcoholic or drug addicted and wantin the cash to get high you'd probably have gotten it in a couple weeks. You said it was due to an accident could they have been waiting to see if you would get a settlement from some other source? Also It would most likely be in your best interests to try to find something you can train for; possibly at home for income cuz they don't allow u much to live on. Good luck !

Well I know its a screwed up system it took me and my son both longer than that. It me 16 months and it took him about a year. I had a company do mine then I had to give them back my back pay because they paid me. My son did get his and it did take 6 months but the did pay some of his back pay. I'm sorry its just a rat race. They don't care about the individual the get so caught up in the paper work the forget the rest of us are human. i hope you had enough in to live on otherwise it still going to be tuff. I was 46 and had enough quarter in so my ssn income is okay but my son only gets ssi and he only gets 500 somethings and its tough. good luck

Unfortunately, the bad apples claiming to be disabled when they are NOT have forced the system into quadruple or further checks.

Your disability sounds legit to me....but I work with some fakers that make my head spin!!!
Trust me---it is truly in all of our best interests that these claims are thoroughly investigated!

Probally because the free loaders have caused a problem for the people that really need it. The system has been badly abused by dead beats that can do something but are looking for a free ride.

You just caught up in all the bureaucracy and the people who reviewed your case before may have arbitrarily decided you did not qualify.
