Here it goes:The speed of light is 187,000 per second. It can travel around the Earth 7 times in 1 second...So heres the best part...The closest star is 4.4 light years away.So to get there we would have to travel at 187,000 miles per second for 4.4 years to finally arrive at the nearest star...Now that my friends is pretty far.....Tom Science 4....It makes me wonder why we don't concentrate more on the problems of the people and it's medium....Good night to all

To begin with, the speed of light is 186,000 miles/sec, not 187,000, and the distance to the nearest star is closer to 4.3 light years, so get your facts right. The amount of money spent on space is insignifcant, when compared with that spent on either defence, or social security. This planet is doomed, eventually, when the sun turns into a red giant, and the seas boil. Long before that happens, we will need to have moved from Earth, and these small steps are just the start. Old saying: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step."

no, not really.

The reasons we don't concentrate more on problems of the people has nothing to do with the distance of the nearest star, nor the time that it would take to get there if we could travel at the speed of light (which we can't).

Sweet dreams
