because blacks back in the day and really today also but back in the day black people could not walk in to white stores and especially buy knives these could be weapons. The white people forced the black people not out of poverty but without liberty the affordable right to have a knife or weapons.
So your grandma remembers people of her day saying this and repeats it today.

Because she was "old school". Back then when men fought in the streets, in "the Ghettos" they would break a bottle and go after each other with the pointed end, using the bottle as a weapon(knife) therefore the term you just mentioned was made. sad but true. Ask your grandma what they used to call a certain type of nut, I am sure she will know.

You're all to sensitive. I found it funny, even though I don't think he was being funny. Anywho because that's what most blacks or "African-Americans" use in fights.
