i used to swim sort of competitively. i was never really fast, but decent. i swam for about two and a half years and quit for a year. i want to join the high school team this fall, but i'm not sure how to get back into shape or even if i should start again. i want to swim for exercise and also because i like it a lot. how would i go about getting into shape again? i only have until august.

You should definitely join. Swimming is the best form of exercise for your body because it is not hard on any of your joints/ligaments and works everything! Other than just swimming laps as if you were in practice, you should run (cardio) and do some weight training to get your arms and legs back into shape. You don't need to be bench pressing 200 lbs or anything- just mix up exercises like lunges and squats while holding handheld weights in each hand.

for more info. Definitely go talk to the coach of the team as well. A lot of times high school teams will have workout plans to do during the summer so you don't want to miss those and he or she will he happy to help you. Good luck!

well if you like swimming keep swimming!! even if you only have till august, keep trying, old habits and reflexes will come back to you. Keep practicing there's still a chance, but don't overdo it and pull a muscle or something, plus

you enjoy swimming, don't stop doing things you love doing (unless its bad for you) if you love doing something keep doing it or well someday you might regret it. (from experience)

Just try your best, if i were you I would be out in the pool pracitcing by now!! Hope you make it into the team!

Go swim again. Do your old exercises in the pool and try to get your remember your strokes.

i love to swim also it is a lot of fun and yes,you should join.to get in shape you could go to a local pool and practice there.

Well practice and then try out for your team, and if they let you on the team swim on it, and if not just swim for fun.

you should swim several laps a day at a gym.
