An exothermic reaction is a reaction that gives off heat. An endothermic reaction is a reaction that requires heat.

Exothermic means that a system (what you are studying) releases heat into the surroundings. it feels warm because heat exits out of the reaction. in enthalpy Delta H would be negative so it would be a spontaneous reaction.

Exothermic -- is a reaction which results in release of energy. ie energy is lost from the system.

~ the reaction liberates heat.

~ if you place the erlenmayer that has the reaction taking place in your hand, youll feel it hot because your hand is colder than the erlenmayer therefore your absorving its heat.
