I was told to watch a few episodes of this program since I because addicted to TNG and VOY. However, a few on here have stated that DS9 should be watched all the way through. So I bought the DVD set and Started my journey. I am a bit confused though, Why is Odo against his own kind the changlings (I know they are bad, but he is the ONLY one of their kind that broke free?) Odo seems very dedicated to sisko but it doesn't make much sense. Also, does anyone else think that the Bajorin (spelling is wrong) is played out a little to much? I am on season 4 and it is mostly about them. They are a very boring species.

DS9 is the best of Trek, in almost every way. if your in the 4th season it should be starting to get good. But to answer your questions, Odo is one of 100 changlings sent thru out the Unvers. He is the first to come back home, (He meets one, maybe two others) He was "raised" by solids, and didn't have hatred that most others had, He also learned about love, and a sense of values that many others don't have, while he understands why his race is distrustful of solids, for the most part he believes in the betterment of man. Odo is not really dedicated to Sisko, but to the ideas of the Federation, and to Kira, He also served the Corrdistan, when they where in charge, both times of the station. Of all Star Treks DS9 does play more to Borjon's more then any other race other then humans, but I think it is a two fold thing. 1st It came from NTG, and the rebuilding of a culture, what should happen and problems that can come up and 2nd because unlike any other ST show it is set in one spot(or at least mostly set) so it had to use the setting it had.

The changelings had a kind of "seeder" program where they sent their eggs (I guess) into space to learn and explore; Odo was one of these but got waylaid by a Cardassian scientist and turned into a lab specimen, which he hated. (That's why he was on DS9 originally.)

As stated, he doesn't know his people--or that they *are* The Dominion (at war with the Federation) at first. This will be a major internal conflict for him over the length of the series; don't want to spoil for you how it turns out. His loyalties are pretty much split.

As others state, since DS9 was the *only* serial (as vs episodic) Star Trek, each show building on the previous, it's definitely best to start at the pilot and view them consecutively. That's exactly why it was THE best Trek series, BTW.

Did you start from season one?
1. Odo didn't know of any other changelings at the beginning of the series.
2. Bajor is the world closest to the wormhole that DS9 "orbits" (not technically, but close enough). At the beginning of the series, DS9 was just taking over after the Cardassians left. The cardassians had ruled Bajor up to this point. Major Kira was a member of the resistance.
