I saw a serial killer going about his business but I didn't seem too scared for my own life - I don't know this person in real life and only towards the end of the dream realized what was going on.

You are the best interpreter of your own dreams, but I wouldn 't take the dream in a literal sense. I have scary dreams all the time, and I can almost always find a theme that has nothing to do with the scary part. A scary dream is your mind's way of telling you "hey! you need to pay attention to something here." If the dream were not scary you probably wouldn't pay attention to whatever message your subconscious was trying to get across.

In my opinion I would think that maybe you are overlooking something in your waking life that needs to be addressed. Look for other clues in the dream and see how they might relate to your waking life.

You're starting to feel let down (killed-killer) but you're trying to put it aside. (didn't seem scared). You need to comfront whatever it is that's putting you down in order to figure out how to make yourself happy again.
