Don't you find it "interesting" how feminist fought SO hard for women's rights in past decades? - Only to have the likes of Britany and Paris - drag the whole thing back down in more recent times! It's a shame that people like that have set the women's movement back! They seem to want all of this "respect" for acting like such trash - don't they get it?
How can you expect serious consideration when all you have to offer is silly, superficial "fluff!" - ? I know that we constantly hear this worn-out old line: "Sex sells." - and yes, it DOES - but if you really want to be a truely "impowered woman" - it seems to me that you would want to be remembered for being more than just THAT! - More than just "the body" and the silly antics - I think that it's the "content of your character" that defines you as being "impowered." When will they ever learn?

I don't see the mainstream media portray feminism well at all. I wish the media could discuss feminism with any measure of maturity and perspective, but I don't foresee that happening any time soon...When discussing careers, the media doesn't point out what feminists did to give women the options to have a career or to work at home. I see a lot of negative portrayals of what "feminists" are, usually quoting people who hate women to the nth degree like Rush Limbaugh. There is no such thing as investigative journalism now. I mainly see negative, destructive sound bites taken out of context to promote stereotypical ideas of what "feminism" is. Even though the premise of feminism is fairly simple (equal pay, equal rights), feminism has been equated by the radical right with all sorts of crazy, stupid ideas, that fits their agendas to raise cash to make this country into the fundamental Christian right nation they want it to be.
In addition, the mainstream media does it's best to make both women and men feel inadequate so they'll buy the products they are advertising. There's nothing educational or informative about the majority of media available to the average consumer.

I think it's a stretch to call it "Half Feminism".
There are so many mixed messages in the media that I don't even bother reading rags any more. There are more intelligent and true forms of media; you just have to be choosy.
As long as women can be manipulated by the Cosmo example you give, or a "Woman's Magazine" with a diet on one page and a chocolate cake recipe that your "husband will love" on the next, Women will always suffer. Each individual must determine for herself how she wants to look, live and be inthe world.
Men and women can say "no, thanks" to untrue media.
WTG, Jack, great point made.
Great Question.
Good luck.

It's amazing to me how some people (men and women) think that "Cosmo" is "feminist". It is the epitome of anti-feminism, or false feminism, in my opinion. I hate that magazine! Such trash! But yes, the false "girl power" attitude of some pop groups like the "Pussycat Dolls" and the like, that pretend to be about empowering to women, when they are really about selling their bodies, are all over. It's laughable.
