What do you think people back in the day thought about the statue of liberty when it was first trying to be put in America?

I think that people thought it was a great gift from France. I thought it was funny that our thank you gift to the french was a 1/4 size copy of the statue. The french put it on a small island in the middle of the seine. It is amazing how many people do not know that.

It is supposed to symbolize freedom just like the flag does but I don't see how a gift we got from the french would mean anything to us no offense to the french. I would just think that if we wanted something to represent us we would have made it ourself.

i think they loved it. it was given to us by francr. it is a symbol of exactly what it is, the statue of liberty. . i am proud that we have it. . it represents what this great country stands for. may it ever stand.
