I couldn't even tell you what political affiliation my parents were/are. I formed my own opinions. My children will do the same.

Well my dad is a hard Republican, and my mom is impossible to typecast. As I'm progressing, I usually stray towards the Rep-Conservative, but have some Democratic ideals (few as they are).

I believe in fairness, keeping the government out of my life, and doing that by being a good citizen. If my relatives who came here poor could do it, then so can I.

An annoying problem I see at school, however, is that some kids go on and on about things they know nothing about, like the've been spoon-fed by their parents, and they block out every argument that comes at them.

I'm incline to agree that parent's might have a strong influence on their children's political philosophy. However; the key factor that will influence a person's political view are: economics, education, religion, social groups (special interest); and rudimentary parental influences (including other family members).

I would think that in most cases the answer is yes. However, as I ahve grown older and wiser, I have been able to take what I've learned from my parents, combine them with what I've learned in my own experience and form a belief system of my own. I have some of the same views as my parents, but different ones as well.

Mine were.. they are intense conservative republicans while as I've gotten older and started bo become my own person I've found myself to become more moderate and I'm actually planning on voting for Barack Obama in the 2008 elections.. however when my parents find out they'll kill me.

In my case, no.

I was an odd kid and watched the news, read the newspaper, etc. whereas my parents did not. They were nowhere near as interested in politics as I was then or am now. What views they do have, though, do not always coincide with my own.

When I was younger, certainly. We still have quite a few views in common, since we're all conservatives, but they're Republicans and I'm a Libertarian.
