What should I say on a job application or in an interview if I did not give notice on a job?

Keep in mind that I did not even give a day's notice.

You don't need to tell them anything. That question isn't normally asked. They may ask you why you left not how you left. I wouldn't use that company as a reference, though.

One can never go wrong in telling the truth - even if it was only a day's notice.

just simply put "explanation upon interview" that way it gives you a chance to explain what the atmosphere was like when you left.
