I had surgery almost 5 weeks ago and now have pins and a plate (I think) in my Rt ankle. I found out that I have osteoporosis in that foot too.I get the non walking cast off tomorrow and a boot put on. I can take it off to sleep and bath. I normally work 12 hours shifts and I am on my feet most of the time. I am wondering how soon I will really be up and around pretty good on that foot. Are you able to drive with your left foot?

You'll get used to it very soon.A kid at my school has a boot and got used to it very quickly. It may take you a day or three.

First off, make sure you follow the Dr's order to the letter. And don't slack in the rehab part either. I DID shatter my leg and ankle about 4 years ago. five hours in surgery to reconstruct my leg and ankle. I have a plate in my right leg and bolts in my right ankle. MY leg will never be right. BUT I can walk. I was out of commission for like a total of three months before I could really move about. I never did have on the boot cast. Mine was removeable from day one. I had to stay off my feet with the exception of going to the bathroom and taking a shower. (Used crutches) Shower I used one of those tub stools to sit on and removed cast while I showered sitting down. Leg was elivated at all other times. But to this day while standing normally as people do my right foot points outward. As the rehab people called it when I walk, a duck walk. But it is kind of funny as it is only my right foot that sticks out. But the way I look at it I CAN walk. During cold weather my leg kills me. The metal sucks the cold right in. I am in pain every single day, but it is something I am accustomed to. It is the cold that kills me. I am surprized that your back to work. ANd another thing, I was told to HAVE as much of the metal REMOVED as possible after my leg was healed. I did take this advice and everything WAS REMOVED except the metal plate in my leg and two ankle bolts which also could not and cannot be removed. everything else has been removed. It sounds like our breaks are very similar to each other. This is why I have explained everything I went through. As you will most likely go through the same thing. My rehab also included water theropy. LOVED that part. Either way good luck with it all and hopefully for a FULL recovery.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

You will heal faster if the blood is circulating a lot. So.... do your physio. Walk as much as you can. Get as much exercise as possible. It will really help.
I don't know about your job - on your feet for 12 hours. That sounds like it'd be really tough on your leg. What does your doctor say about returning to work?
I taught myself to dive with my left foot. Just don't let the cops catch you!
