When your pregnant hormones keep your hair from falling out..That`s why most women have fuller thicker looking hair...After birth and the hormone leaves your body you start to lose all that hair that you would`ve lost for the past nine months!! I honestly thought I was going to go bald!!! Congrats on you new baby!!

It has nothing to do with what type of birth she had, ie natural or c-section.
When you are pregnant you do not shed hair. So naturally afterwards it all starts shedding.
I had quite long hair and use to lose the normal amount when washing it before I was pregnant and then hardly any whilst I was. After I gave birth it came out a lot(not noticable on my head or anything) and I was actually worried so I started keeping the hair as it was falling out to see how much I would lose in a week - it wasn't actually that much at all. After about 6 months it all went back to normal.
Don't panic about it, unless she can actually see bald spots on her head. Then see a doctor, because she may be lacking in some vitamins or something.

Listen:
I was 39 when I had our baby last year. 4 months after I had a cesarean, my hair clogged up the tub and the vaccuum cleaner. I waited another 4 months to see a doc about it. I thought that hair loss was really common post partum, so I figured it would straighten itself out. It didn't.
The doc did bloodwork and found that I was hypothyroid.
Does your wife have other symptoms? Really low energy? Lack of periods? They will give her some sort of synthetic thyroid hormone. I have been on synthroid now for 5 months, and the hair loss has stopped mostly.
Good luck, and hie thee to a doctor!

This same thing happend to me.. It is just all the hormones in her body.. That and a shortage of vitamins that her body is needing. I started taking the One A Day Womens and it helped alot.. After a while my body was back in control and the hair loss went away.. If she is really worried about it get a consult from a doctor and see what they have to say....

Very normal, it can happen for about 8-9 months after birth. It is extra hair, she is not going bald, tell her not to worry.

iit is normal to loose about 100 strands of hair a day...if she has her hair up in a pony alot it will look like more hair that fell out..the reason is..when you hair is up the loose hair has no where to go and just stays up with the other hair...and if she keeps her hair down she wont realize how much hair is fallin out b/c its not tied up....another thing that is common after pregnancy is post-natal Alapica..which is chunks of her hair comes out in one spot and will have patches of baldness! but if you dont realize that..then she doesnt have it! and if she does its only tempoary...

It could be a result of her pregnancy. I lost a lot of hair so far and I'm due March 24th.

yes a very normal thing to happen after you give birth, your hormones are going crazy and while you are preg you do not loose as much hair so after the baby you loose a ton of hair.... it happens to everyone

I am right with gg........same thing happened to me. Hair falling out is a sign of a thyroid disorder. Often pregnancy triggers thyroid disease. Does your wife have any thyroid disease in her family? She might want to ask for a TSH blood test. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions!
