Simple Green works great. You can get it in a hug bottle at Sam's Club. It is also bio-degradable, so It won't hurt anything when you get it all over in your yard or driveway.

Grease in the engine compartment is hard to clean though. You are not going to find a magic solution that will melt it away without causing damage to the engine seals. You might have to us a plastic bristle bush to help the built up stuff off. Do not use a wire brush though, you will strip paint and damage seals if you do that.

Good Luck... I would also buy some Orange clean, because if you are going to get dirty trying to clean the engine, and that stuff always get the grime off your hands.

I would not suggest using WD-40...because, well... ITS FLAMMABLE!!!!!

I like using Enginebrite Foamy engine cleaner, it expands and lifts grease and grime right off....sometimes a second app is necessary.

The castrol cleaner is strong but has a tendency to etch the surface, leaving a white residue.

I use Formula 88, which is a black bottle, with a red spray top. That'll cut through almost anything. Not many places have it, but I believe some auto shop chains do.

Pocket knife it off then work with some WD-40 or similar. The foam stuff at the carwash has some option maybe.
