Why shouldn't we criminalise the payment of ransome?

Criminalization of ransom payments is tantamount to issuing a death sentence for the kidnapped parties. I do not think that type of matter can be legislated. I think related parties need the flexibility to make an informed decision. Such as the differences between negotiating with terrorists in Iraq versus negotiating with criminals in New York state.

because it wouldn't be a deterent. I'd do whatever was necessary to get back someone I loved, as would most people. that hardly makes me a menace to society, now, does it?
