They have burrows so they can keep warm during the night when it gets particularly cold. They need this when they have babies so they can protect them against the weather. Many desert animals are reptiles and therefore cannot thermoregulate their body temperature. Simply they would freeze if they stayed above ground when the weather is cold. It also provides protection for when it does actually rain in the desert.

There are many animals that live in the ground and or burrow. If you include insects, bugs, arthropods, and worms, it would be in the thousands.
There is even an owl that burrows.

In the cold season the body heat flow down less ,there fore they don"t need much higher energy to do work.then no need to search for food,automatically they feel lasyness.therefore they go to bed .
