I sleep all day (around 10 hours a day) and stay up all night; I think that my life's worthless; I never go out unless it's an emergency; I cry sometimes when I feel really bad, which is just about every night; I don't have any friends because I'm very shy and I always look like I'm in a bad mood when I'm really not; I feel like I'll never find anything that will make me happy; I don't care about the way my life is and where it's leading; I don't have no desire to do anything with my life; I know that I'm ugly because I'm really fat; I know that I will never end up finding anyone to love or even have kids in my lifetime; I've had the desire recently to hurt myself just to feel better; I've had suicidal thought within the past couple of months; I have no self-esteem what so ever; I'm 20 years old and I feel like my life's already over; I can't stand to even talk to the friends I do have b/c I don't want to bring them down with me; I have no energy what so ever, I'm tired all the time.

No, I don't think that you are depressed. I think you just need to have a schedule in your life. Wake up early, eat breakfast, go outside and enjoy the sunlight. Find things to occupy your day, i.e. join classes or something of the like. You're not depressed.

I am sorry to hear you feel this way. I think you should go and talk to a doctor. He/she would probably be able to assess you condition better than us:) Make a list of your symptoms and any questions you have before you go & take it with you to the appointment.
If you snore, have ever been told you stop breathing while you sleep, or often times wake up with a sore throat or headache, you might want to bring up Sleep Apnea to the Dr.
Otherwise I would advise you try to get to bed earlier, and get up earlier so you have more "daytime" to enjoy. The sunlight is said to help with mood. Another thing that might help is to sign up for an exercise or yoga class. It would motivate you to get out and do something. You might have to make yourself go, but I think you will feel better when you do.
Above all be good to yourself. :)

Girl i know exactly how you feel i was there too! Im also 20 years old and i used to battle depression and feel the same way you do right now. I slept all day and was very emotional and had low self esteem, i would also go through extreme moods like one moment everything would be great and then the next my whole life felt like it was falling apart.. it was really difficult. I decided to go to see a counselor at my university and it really helped, i was very aprehensive about the whole situation but it turned out to be the best thing i had ever done for myself. i met with her once a week and it gave me time to talkl about my feelings and to focus on myslef for once, she even talked me into going to a group therapy session at my school where i met with two counselors and 6 other people my age... i was really nervous but it made me realize that i so many other people felt the exact same way that i did and it was really life changing to be abvle to talk about that. one of the most valuable things that i learned was about cognitive distortions :they are how you distort your thoughts in different ways and after learning about these i realized that i was doing most of these things in my mind without even thinking about it and thats a reason why i was feeling so down. Here is a list of a few, you should read them and see if you do any of them:

1) all or nothing thinking: you restrict possibilities and options to only two choices yes or no (all or nothing)
2) over-generalization: you view a single, negative event as a continuing and never ending pattern of defeat.
3) negative mind filter; you dwell mostly on the negatives and generally ignore the positives
4) discounting the postives: you insit you acheivements or positive efforts do not count
5) magnification and minimization: you blow things way out of proportion or minimize their importance.
6) Mustabatory thinking or shoulding all over yourself: you criticize yourself or other people with shoulds, musts, oughts, and have to's
7) jumping to conclusions: a) mind reading: you assume that people are reacting negatively to you without any objective evidence. b) fortune telling: you predict taht things will turn out badly without any objective evidence
8) emotional reasoning: you base your reasoning from your feelings "i feel like a loser, so i must be one"
9)what-if: you continually ask yourself questions about what if something happens and you are not satisfied with the answers or feel unprepared to handle the situation. "what if i fail the test" or "what if i cant meet people"

these are just some of them that really hit home for me. i hope this helped you a bit and just remeber that depression is not just a mental thing is physical and emotional too so take care of yourself and take the time to look for help. You are worth it girl!

I think you should go and talk to a psychologist or a theapist. Perhaps there is an underline cause that is making you feel this way. If you are sucidial please talk to a professional or call a hotline. There is nothing to be ashamed about this, they go to school for this, it is there job. A professional will be able to help you, guide you, and give you the best answer. I am not always pro medicine, but first go and just talk. Also, a medical check up would not hurt either. Giving up gives pernmnant results. Trembluence is just for a little while.

nearly everyone goes through this phase, i go through it, its 5:17 am here and i'm still up and no wonder i will not wake up before 3 pm. but u know that is why?! i'm on a college break now and my life is so empty and i dont like phoning friends or something even when they do ring me i tell anybody to tell them i'm busy.. i mean it just happens. but it ends when i am occupied in some sort of something, when i go out and see people and get to talk to them. i know it's hard to suddenly get out there again but u gotta try u have at least another 50 years to live. and life is about living, try to use that to the fullest... go out, have fun... and even if u cannot find anyone to have fun with because people are sometimes shallow and stupid.. screw it.. try to love yourself. i'm sure there is a reason behind your behaviour. just think that you are above people that judges you by your body, you dont even need to deal with that kind of people, you is what you are in your heart. and dont try to block your friends' trials to reach to you, its really probable that they are the ones that will affect your life.
good luck.

yes. you also have low self esteem and tend to see things as half empty. if you don't like who you are inside then what are you going to do about it. its not other peoples responsibility to make you happy. if you want to hurt yourself its because your hurting over the lack of control you seem to have over your own life. seeking out a doctors help can also narrow down what kind of depression you have. seasonal,bi-polar,mood swings, or just a lack of appreciation or recognition for what you do have or can have going for you. there are also meds that can help. PS don't predetermine you future. if you think yuck you feel yuck......then you act yuck and can end up looking yuck. for example have you ever seen a beautiful person act ugly. they actually start to look that way. or an ugly person act beautifully they begin to look beautiful.

I think you should see a therapist. You think so little of yourself, and a therapist can help you learn to love yourself. You were not born thinking this way, someone has instilled these things into your head. If you believe in God, talk to him and tell him how you feel. Then sit still and listen to what he has in store for you life. He will send you angels to help you through this tuff time. You need to learn to love yourself for who you are, and then you will start feeling much better!!!

Don't fret. I know how you feel.... I was there up til 18.. and til this day still feel sadness.. but there are ways to cope. Just learn to breathe and be patient and enjoy what you can in your day. Find something good on TV.. or listen to music and relax.. find something that puts you in a good mood.. =]
