Such a simple word, we probably use the word every day, yet it can be so hard to define, how would you define this word, personally I have my own opinion, but I want to see how other people define this word.

Note: Any definitions out of a dictionary/encyclopedia/etc will just be thumbs-downed..I dont want the article from dictionary.com, I want the way YOU define it.

The following may seem like dictionary definitions, but they're honestly how I think and talk.

1. (describes a necessary or inherent quality)
Example: A bird is a warm-blooded feathered vertebrate.

2. (describes a location or current state)
Example: The book is on the table.

3. (connects a pronoun to its referent)
Example: Is that what you're serving for dinner?

4. (connects a noun to an adjective describing it)
Example: This question is surprisingly difficult to answer.

i would say "is" is a present state of being. another definition would be "is" is a singular being verb.

i still remember the being verb list--am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been :)
