No, teams with automatic bids are the teams that don't have to win their conference but are in. The ones that have to win their conference are the automatic bid teams. So I disagree with the first answer.

I mean teams that win their conferences are NOT automatic bid teams.

The first answer is correct. If you win your conference tournament, you are automatically in (hence automatic bid). The other spots go to teams that a committie chooses to go and a lot of factors go into the choosing like strength of schedule and big wins against ranked teams.

You get an automatic bid if you win your conference tournament. There are 31 conference champions that get automatic bids and 34 that have to wait on at large bids. For example, if Clemson wins the ACC tournament, they no longer have worry about being a bubble because they would get automatically and probably push a bubble team out.

The only teams that get automatic bids are those that win their conference tournament. There is no other way to get an automatic bid. There are teams that have a lock on at large bids, but not guaranteed.

King Midass couldn't be more wrong. There has never been a team in NCAA history that has purposely lost their conference tournament. UCLA would want to win the Pac-10 title so that they get a lock on the best number one seed which gives them an easier road to the final four. Top 25 teams do not get an automatic bid unless they win their tournament. A better example is Florida. The Gators have lost 3 of their last 4 and are feeling their number one seed in the South slip away. They will make the tournament, but if they win the SEC tournament then they will most likely get a one seed. King Midass is an idiot if he thinks UCLA gives a crap about how many PAC-10 teams make the tourny. And lets not get into the money schools make if they win their conference tourny.

They get automatic Bids if they are ranked in the top 25. The reason being is that some teams intentionally lose their conference championship game so that they can get more teams into the tournament from their conference. For Example UCLA is already in the tournament because they are ranked in the top 5 and if they lose their tournament championship they will not drop below 10, so they are guaranteed a spot in the tournament.
