Weinke was not made for the NFL. He went 1-15, Delhomme showed up the next season and preformed much better. Plain and simple, Delhomme had it, Weinke didn't.

Weinke never got a good chance. The Panthers at the time he came around were just awful, from the management down.
Do not think he would have been a Marino, but decent enough to start for some teams.

Weinke never had the intensity or mind to play like a Marino. He was a good college QB but lacked the skills to play in the NFL.

I always liked Weinke...I wish he had been given the same chance Delhomme has...Delhomme wouldn't be a Panther, cause Weinke would be starting...I think so...Don't get me wrong...I like Delhomme...But to answer your question, if he had been given a fair shot, yes, he could have been huge...In his first season, of course there was no offensive line, and the QB always gets the blame...

I have always liked him and never felt he got a fair shot. Fox did not like him. I always felt he lost some of his edge by going into baseball for those few years. No telling what he might have done if he would have just went into football.
