The social issues won't be what impairs his standing amongst conservatives. The politically conservative and social conservative wings are not the same. The political conservatives are more than willing to sell out their social ideology to elect a political concervative
What will impact his standing is the judges he did nominate while mayor of New York. Let us just say those judges do not have the highest standing amongst conservatives.
Let's not forget Giuliani's relationship with Bernard Kerik, his dismissal of the police commissioner when he got credit for the decrease in crime... there's a lot about Giuliani that is not well known yet.
If Giuliani gets the nomination, expect a third party candidate.

A vote for Rudy by an evangelical is still better than a vote for Hillary or Obama. I daresay Rudy will move a little right in his platform. His leadership skills are tremendous.
Unfortunately, a lost vote for Rudy is like another vote for Hillary or Obama. Sort of a catch 22.
Let's hope we get some sanity.

I don't vote for a person based on who their friends are, their personal life, or the issue of abortion. There are bigger issues and more meaningful criteria that I use when voting for a president. Besides - I believe in the separation of church and state - and you can't label a persons religion by their party.
He's not a bad choice - certainly worth consideration. But then again, I'll consider all the candidates - regardless of their party. More people should be open to seeing the person, not the tally on the dem/rep score card.

well as a staunch conservative i will vote for him. because well, no one is perfect and while on a few issues he is a social liberal he is a total fiscal conservative, and is mostly a social conservative as well. i am not completely sure why so many people love to focus on one or two points to tear down a candidate, i would prefer to look at all the issues that concern me. and why is it that libs love to make it seem like all conservatives are gay hating rednecks, who are racist and love nothing more than money? hmmm it is odd to me. i have many gay friends in fact my cousin is gay, i do not look down on them for being gay but i do not support them being able to get married. then again i do not support anyone getting married outside a church. any non religious ceremony should simply be called a domestic union or something like that. i am not sure why liberals so thoroughly enjoy destroying anything with a religious base to it. what are you all so afraid of? also GWB has appointed more minorities to high level positions than any president ever. not much of a racist. comparing a man like Rudy to Clinton is like comparing the french to the US marine Force Recon. there is no comparison. one makes mistakes and admits to them, and moves on with his life. the other screws up, gets caught and shifts blame, lies and uses his power to avoid any sort of repercussions for his actions. ill let you figure out who is who. it should not be difficult.

Giuliani will do despite the Republicans choose him to do if he will become President. The liberal media is portraying him to be greater liberal than he rather is. Liberals will lose besides in 2008 because of the fact they have no subject concerns human beings are interested in. All they are in a position to do is whinge approximately Iraq and demand that human beings' considerable concerns are the fee of healthcare and Al Gore's international warming baloney. no person is waiting for huge tax will boost, and that's certainly each and every of the Democratic occasion is known for.

I'm a conservative. I also have gay friends and gay family members and I welcome them into my life with open arms. Some liberals can be so annoying and hypocritical. Those like you pretend to be open minded, yet you are willing to label others who don't agree with you.
If Rudy wins the nomination, I'll be all for him. Get real. You don't understand us all all. Rudy would be nothing like voting for Billary.

Actually, the age of the "social conservative" (or religious right as it is often called) is over. Its main champion was George Bush and he showed that the movement lacked real world practicallity, was inflexable, and misaligned national priorities.
Mitt Romney might be in the race, but the real contenders (Rudy and McCain) are Goldwater moderates.

I don't care a whit about the things you mentioned. If Giuliani wins the nomination, I'll vote for him based on his positions on the more important issues from my point of view: national defense, taxes, and social security reform.
As long as they believe that he won't appoint activist judges, more socially conservative republicans will vote for him too.

Well, as a moderate conservative, I kind of like the thought of Giuliani being nominated. Being that he is a moderate, perhaps he would be able to bridge the seemingly ever-widening gap between the right and left. Something akin to his work in NYC after 9/11.........pulling everyone together.

I'm not a con, but I think if Giuliani is voted in, it could be the best thing that has ever happened to the Republicans.. it might just make them seem half way human again after the demoralizing and demonizing of them that the Bush tenure has gleaned.
