No one automatically. The VP becoming Pres. would appoint a new VP and the Senate would confirm.

Historical example:

1. Nixon's VP Spiro Agnew resigns. Nixon nominated Gerald Ford to replace Agnew as VP. Senate confirms.

2. Nixon resigns and Ford becomes Pres. Ford nominated Nelson Rockefeller to replace himself as VP. Senate confirms.

TO ALL THOSE who say Speaker of the House (3rd in line), Sec. of State (4th), etc. - ONLY if Pres AND VP are incapacitated; only then does the chain of succession come into play, and even then, it's not a conga line, i.e. if Speaker (3rd) were to become Pres through succession, the Sec. of State (4th) does NOT become Speaker of the House.

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, sorry the only source I have is my Political Science classes in college, you may just want to search presidential line of succession on line. Well it usually would be, but I think the New President would just appoint one, though if both were to die at the same time the Speaker would then become President. Normally the new speaker appoint the Speaker of the House out of courtesy, but if they are not in the majority party is not in power in the house, then no I don't know. .

Ummmm, the president would appoint a new VP and the Senate would have to approve of the measure.

Nancy Palosi who's third in line and the Speaker of the House.

I stand corrected. I agree with the person below who said that it would be Palosi if both P and VP were incapacitated.
