It means that your lips are "synchronized" with the words being sung, but that you are not the singer - thus the phrase "lip-synch". For example, if you have a music CD playing in the background and you are playing the part of the singer, but no sounds are actually coming from your mouth. This is what Milli-Vanilli got in trouble for because they weren't honest about it.

Synch is sort for synchronized. It means perfectly at the same time. Like the synchronized swimmers - everyone does every move perfectly at the same time. When you lip synch its supposed to look like you are actually singing, not just 'moving your lips to the music'. To be good, believable, it has to be in synch.

It basically means you aren't singing live. You're mouthing the words to the song (or actually singing, but have the mic turned off) and there's a track with your voice playing through the speakers instead.

this is when you are just mouthing the words to a song, no actual words come out of your mouth. it literally is just that, you are synching your mouth with the words of the song.
