I had block scheduling all through middle and high school - so four periods a day, 90 minutes each.

My first semester freshman year I had geometry, health/gym, chorus 1 and world history part 2. Second semester was Spanish 2, Introduction to Chemestry and Physics, Photography 1 and English 9.

It wasn't all that different from middle school for me, just a different building.

And don't worry too much about publishing work right now. It takes some people years. And the things I wrote when I was your age... let's just say I'm glad I never got around to sending them anywhere. I've learned so much more about the craft of writing and the hard work that goes into it since I got into graduate school. If you love writing, just write for the fun of it for now.

Have you read any books on writing? May I suggest Janet Burroway's "Writing Fiction" - it's a really great overview. The link below is to the edition I have, there's a newer one out now, but it is more expensive (even for used copies - which I recommend if you don't have a lot of money to spend on a writing textbook right now!).

(Don't let anyone discourage you, though -- not even me, though I hope I didn't. The link below the book one is for things Jane Austen wrote before she published her novels - just as an incentive to keep going - Austen is one of the most famous writers in the world, but she started like everyone else!)

There were eight class periods a day in my high school. Students generally took seven classes, so they had the option of arriving and leaving early or arriving and leaving later.

1st Period: Spanish I
2nd Period: English 101
3rd Period: Biology
4th Period: Study Hall and/or Gym
Lunch
5th Period: Algebra
6th Period: Religion/Philosophy (depending on your school; private schools tend to skip Philosophy and teach Religion
7th: American History 101
8th Period: No class

Hope this helps.

Well usually you will have seven classes each about 50 minutes. Usually its four of them then lunchtime then another three. Plus there's like (six minute) breaks to get to class.
