Your spouse's parent/sibling says to someone and you over hear it:

"All I want is for my son/daughter to be loved unconditionally. I hope he/she is getting that."
How would you feel? Would you confront them?

This is a poll folks.

I would say, "then you should ask them that directly so you can get the answer and let it go."

Since this is a poll.....I would have to wonder what "unconditionally entailed." I mean does that mean if he/she is an abuser does that mean they hope the new partner will stay? Unconditionally can mean alot of things. I love both my children incredibly but would NEVER expect someone to love them unconditionally. We all need rules/conditions/and boundries. I would kindly ask the inlaw making the comment what they consider unconditional love...then listen carefully to the answer. They may have meant nothing by the statement...but my gutt instict would be there may be underlying problems that they hope their childs partner can "live with." Confront, NO, question gently, YES.

Well, what's wrong with their request? Even if its a little unrealistic they have the right to voice it. So you just say "Of course" unless you're one of those uptight "can't tell a lie' folks in which case, just smile and say "please excuse me I need to use the restroom." Or work yourself into a frenzy and creat a problem.

Man, I don't know what I'd do. In laws can be difficult sometimes. I would probobly just let it go.

No, I don't think there is anything wrong with this comment but it does seem a bit incomplete.
