It isn't something, it is someplace.

Valley Forge, Pa., was the winter home of the Continental Army under the command of General George Washington, during the winter of 1777/1778. It was a brutally cold and desperate time for the Americans encamped.

The name is actually derived from an iron forge located on Valley Creek.

In my History class, we learned it was a place where George Washington camped with his troops lacking decent food, clothing, and shelter. During this time, it was hard to keep his troops together because they tried to run-away or resign from their positions to avoid this hard winter. Fortunatley they survived it and they defeated the British in a major American Revolution battle.
