Freedom is more an illusion that governments work hard at brain washing their people into believing. For example, the US keeps bragging about it's freedom. But do the people of the US really have freedom? In theory they do, but in practice they don't. In the US, there are laws for just about everything. If there isn't one already, they are either working or it or thinking about it. It seems that in the US, there are laws about laws and then some more.
I would say that right after WWII, there used to be some freedom in the US, but not anymore. There are laws that restrict pretty much everything that people do. The Federal and State government love to play the role off big bother and tell they people how to live their lives.
A good example of that is what just happened in Texas. The governor made it mandatory for all teen age girls to be vaccinated with the HPV vaccine. He took the responsibility out of the hands of the parents and made the choice for everybody as if he was god. The fact is that he nor anyone in government can assure with 100% accuracy, that those vaccines are 100% safe. In other words, he has chosen to do a big experiment on all teen age girls in Texas. Some people may say that the vaccine is safe and that's why the FDA approved it. That it went through a ton of tests to before is was considered safe; but haven't we heard that before? How many times has the government approved a drug to later deemed it unsafe. LOST OF TIMES!
Back in the 70's the US government forcefully sterilized thousands Puerto Rican and Native American females. They used all kinds of tactics and lies to make them comply with what the government thought was right. A lot of these women were threaten with losing their children if they did not comply. Some were lied to and told that they were having a different type of surgery. Do you call that freedom? Not me!
The truth is that freedom is just an illusion that the government wants you to believe. There's no such thing as a free country and the US is one of the most oppressed countries in the world.
So no, there's no such thing as a free country. There are only countries that are more livable than others, that's all! But this is just my personal opinion.

King Rao's answer is very astute. Freedom does not come without consequences. And all freedom comes at a price. As long as the majority are mature and act accordingly, freedoms are more prolific. Unfortunately, and consequently since 9/11 it seems as though freedom in the US is decreasing dastically. It is easy to have freedoms used against us.

Countries, by definition, imply a strong government. All governments are the antithesis of freedom because governments are established to maintain the status quo through physical force or threat of.
People have the most freedom in the absence of governments. I suppose if you can move to the Moon you may live in total political freedom. On Earth, Anctartica is a good place, NW Territories in Canada, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Russia (in the middle of Siberia), the Sinai Desert, Libyia, etc ...
These are inhospitable places, basically lawless territories.
That's my take on it..
