I personally don't think Minnesota, Vancouver or Calgary will blow it enough in the final weeks to let the Avs into the playoff picture. Those 3 clubs have been playing solid playoff style hockey for months now and I don't think they'll slide enough to open the door wide enough for Colorado to get in. Colorado is playing well and I actually feel as others do... they have some really strong prospects and next year I see them battling for 1st in the division... not just for an 8th place playoff spot.
This year though it's just too little too late but at least they can make it interesting for their fans and fill the rink every game by keeping the momentum up and getting as close to 8th as possible.

It will really depend on Calgury and Minnisota more than Colorado. Obviously, Colorado is on a streak right now, which, for the purpose of this answer, we will assume continues. If they win 13 of the remeaining 16, they'll be in good shape. If Minnisota doesn't lose a few games (Around 8) then the Avs have NO chance, because they're so far behind. The Flames will most likely make it anyway, due to the fact that they are looking really hot (Pun SO intended) right now.
Minnisota does have a decent team right now, so I'm going to say "Probobly Not". Anything can happen, though, I guess.

With 14 games left, I figure the Colorado Avalanche will have to win about 10 of them to make the playoffs. Even then, it's a long-shot. They are 8 points behind Minnesota in their conference and they need to move up a spot to go to the playoffs. I hope they make it, but at this point, I would bet against them. Sure would be weird having an NHL playoff without the Avs huh?!

I'm an Avs fan, and I'd love to see the streak adding another year, but it just doesn't seem fathomable. They got into the groove of things far too late, especially with the goalie situation. You also have to consider all the injuries of star players, Svatos, Skrastins, Leopold, Turgeon and Brisebois. It seems highly unlikely.
But with Budaj getting more comfortable, Hejduk making a comeback, Wolski and Stastny showing what they've got, I think next year will be a whole nother story.
Minnesota and Colorado meet each other on the 11 so, that should be some indication as to who can be on top.

yes, if calgary or minnesota lose 5 games more than the avs do in the final stretch. With the way budaj gets support i'd say they have a great chance! GO AVS!

Yes. If Peter Budaj can continue his hot goaltending and Milan Hejduk and Paul Stastny continue their torrid scoring, they can definitely steal that 8th seed. Minnesota is currently struggling right now and the Avs are only 8 points out from them. I think its possible.

I think it will be an uphill battle for the Av's if they were to try to make the playoffs.
