Why does the gov't allow women to keep having babies if they can't afford them?

It really ticks me off that so many women keep having kids they can't afford. They get free rent or very cheap, food stamps, wic, their cars fixed, help with their electric bills and such. They even get checks every month, so all they do is sit at home and keep on popping out kids. I think it is rediculous and the gov't should only allow this for maybe a year. Tax payers are basically paying for their children. Why do they allow this?!

This is kind of directed to CAPEGIRL...I have a friend who is one of these women, I love her to death, but disagree with her lifestyle. She got her school PAID FOR, INTERNET PAID FOR, SHE HAS CABLE and puts her daughter in pageants that cost hundreds. She makes decent money, enough to pay more then 100 rent a month. I'm NOT saying that kids should suffer, I am a mom myself. They should be put up for adoption to a family that can support and love them. Her b-friend also lives with her and does NOT work, there is NO reason she should get all of this. Yes, some people need a little help now and then and there is nothing wrong with that. But you should not be able to keep popping out kids that you can't afford and sit on your butt all day collecting welfare. There are people who need the help, but can't get it b/c the stupid girl with 5 kids is mooching off the gov't. There should be a limit!!! YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN!

Why? Because you can't legislate procreation (you would never get an amendment to the constitution to be ratified by the states), and to allow an innocent child to suffer is inhumane. It's the classic rock & a hard place.

Now, if we required monitoring of the expenditure of the federal/state funds, and brought fraud charges against those women/men that misused thefunds, then we may see some changes. I agree that the 'free ride' needs to stop, but not in any way that endangers the children.

It is my belief that our federal government , even though it has been controlled by Republicans for the past 6 years, rewards bad behavior on the part of these women.

I have a plan. Our government should set up clinics in all of our major cities. They should offer $1000 to any male who is willing to have a vasectomy. The only men who would show would be those who are completely broke and need the $1000.

There would be no cost to the recipient, but he would stop reproducing children he could not support. Then the welfare to these unwed mothers should be cut off. The children should be placed in care centers where they could be taken care of and educated. The mothers should be given a stipend and job training, and visitation rights. Once they get a job, and can care for their children, then they can have them back.

This would vastly cut down on the number of wellfare recipients in this country.

The solution is to limit the amount of time you can dip into the government's wallet. It's one thing to be a productive citizen who is just having a temporary hard time needing help, it happens to the best of us. It's the people that abuse the system need a swift kick in the rear. I say, you get one pregnancy on this welfare system. After one kid you cannot pay for, that's it, you've already collected all you supposedly "deserve". I would rather pay for sterilization (male OR female, or both), birth control (shots, iuds, or implants to make absolute SURE no more babies) or the court costs of adoptive parents rather than shelling out more money to lazy, worthless baby making machines.

Well the last time i checked no one can tell a woman what to do with her body. Believe me you don't want that..sooner or later it will affect you! Your other statements are a very prejudiced and narrow minded view of mothers on welfare. Most women don't get enough on welfare to afford cable or sometimes even a phone.The "free" apartments they get come with a very high price---terrible locations, overcrowding, violence in the neighborhood. Schooling is lower rate in these areas so the kids never start out on equal footing. Moms on the system aren't allowed to collect and go to school. ANYWAY..you have a lot to learn..

Your rent is paid off the top before you even get a check..you don't see your rent money.
A single person on welfare typically has about 75-100 dollars extra for the MONTH.If they want cable or a phone it comes out of this. No wonder they try to get more money elsewhere. Could you live on 100 a month?
Parents with children get more but not enough. Typically they get 100 per child added to their check for the month. This is used for food. Forget movies or treats. Most moms rely on women's centres and food banks to get them through till next check day. Very demeaning.
Yes the baby bonus in Canada is high..$325 for 1 child. You don't have to be on welfare to get that. I'm a teacher and i still get 114 dollars a month for my 2 children. The women i know and work with treat the kids to something and God forbid they themselves might go out once a month.
Your friend is taking advantage of the system in a big way. If she gets caught she will be charged with fraud and will have to pay it back. That happens here. Women have boyfriends living with them and claim them as borders...tricky business. For every 1 of these women there are 20 others that try really hard to get by, are battling often abuse and desperation. Your friend gives them a bad name.
Welfare here will not allow you to work or go to school without losing benefits. Women can't afford childcare to go to work or school...hence the welfare trap.

President Bush stopped allot of the Welfare programs and created more incentives for them to find work. They no longer receive the hefty benefits that they used to get. Now there is a long waiting list also. It usually takes about 1 year to be qualified to receive housing benefits and some others. I know that allot of benefits still exist and it's great for those who truly need them to get on their feet. There has to be some help for these children. The government can't stop people from having babies. I do know that in my state you are limited to receive benefits for no more than 5 children. I know that that is allot of children to be having when you are in Dior Straights.

It goes back to Lyndon Johnson...who almost single handedly destroyed the black family thru his welfare bills he got passed just before leaving office. Now it has spread to all parts of society...and is killing us coz the responsible people are out working and will have only 1 or 2 kids coz life is expensive coz we have to pay for those who pop em out, and collect 500 everytime they pass go....then we have to hear how poor they are and they need more money....and guess who they vote for?

Yes, it is COMPLETELY ASININE! I look at it this way: It is immoral to tell other people that they can't breed, but it is immoral to make me pay for their choices, too. I think if we cut off all the welfare, a large number of people would suddenly learn how to use condoms. As far as I am concerned, if they cannot pay for the labor & delivery, then the child should be placed for adoption to parents who are actually willing & able to care for it.

I have NO SYMPATHY for women who get knocked up knowing full well they are in NO POSITION to parent. Besides, what kind of example are these welfare whores setting for their little rugrats? Breed & let someone else foot the bill?! Argh!

Talk to a socialist like Ted Kennedy about this issue. Politicians view welfare handouts as a way to buy votes. Support and talk about giving money handouts based on how many kids you can begat and beget and see your popular support rise. So these voters vote for politicians who promise to give them more money for spreading their legs.

The only way you can stop this is to get a law passed that requires the use of steel plated chastity belts for women on welfare and barbed, unremovable penis sheaths for the men. But even this might not work.

The only answer I could think of is that all their pregnancies were accidents, because there is no reason they should keep getting pregnant if they know thay cannot afford it, or because they like and want to keep getting all of the free stuff everybody else pays for!
