I was just woundering how i would be able to tell how far along i would be if my last period was on Jan. 28th. It was a short period only a couple days and lite spotting the days to follow. The dr. office said that according to the blood test i am around 3-5 weeks, but i think i might be farther along then that. Should i go w/ my own instinct? or by what the dr's say w/out an ultra sound? Thanks for your help

You just really had a sonogram done, they usually do it right away so they can get a better idea of the size of the fetus.. for now go by what the doctor says.. they will measure your uterus and they can then determine if they made a mistake. \

good luck and congratulations.

i myself am also about 6 weeks pregnant. congrats to us!!! the way you determine your due date is to check the day of the start of your last period. then you subtract 3 months, then add 7 days. thats your due date. and remember that a typical pregnancy lasts anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks so your actually better off picking a due "week." the doctors are usually right on about how far along you are, given they did at least in internal exam. they can tell by the size of your uterus how far along you are. since my last period was also on jan. 28th., my due date is november 5th. also my advice is to purchase the book "What to expect when your expecting." It has many answers about anything and everything you may have questions on. good luck!!

I would go by the blood test. I am currently 5 weeks and 6 days and my last period was like yours, i even did the pregnancy test which came back neg. The blood test is very accurate as it goes by how much hcg you have in your body.

Good Luck with the baby and a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!

By the way my last period was Jan26th and im due November 2nd.

First up, in the event that they're uncertain they're going to deliver you in for an ultrasound. I provide my date of final era and the date of first ignored, they soak as much as account how long your era lasts to how often you have them. so as that they might guess once you ovulate? yet they inform you they may be off on the dates, that that is around approximately sometime and not everybody is going on their due date, some go formerly a week or 2 and the infant is on time and a few go over or could be precipitated, and a few have untimely toddlers. superb guess is from ultrasound, by technique of the size and the advancements.

although you are very aware of your own body, i would sugest following the dr's advice... being pregnant seems to take forever- but when that kid is born, you will see what "forever" really is!

you figure your due date by taking the first day of your last period and adding 42 weeks to that...

you figure how far along you are the same way, by using the dates

incidentally, no matter what the doc says, or what you figure- that baby will come out when its darned good and ready!! (no matter WHEN you think it should)

It's really a guessing game. The doctor's guess, and then they adjust as they get more information. Just wait til you get you first ultrasound. It will tell them more clearly how far along you are. My numbers and my doctors never were the same and I had 3 children. Even down to how far dilated I was during labor.

Take the first day of your last period, and subtract 3 months from that. You will have your baby around the end of October.
