What is the ultimate reason to live?

I live to find an answer for a question not thought of yet. My veins flow with blood, my brain cradled in cerebrospinal fluid, my thoughts synchronized. To me, death is not important, it wouldn't matter if I were to die tomorrow, in 50 years, basically, whenever. I have ridden myself of instinct, and do not live just for survival. That is an animal's way. I am a sentient being. I think, therefore I am. My goal is to live without doubts. Now, pray tell, what can I accomplish?

I did stare suicide, I turned myself away in disgust.

I live because I want to. I love life. It is hard, happy, sad and everything in between. My ultimate reason to live is to give, have, take and love. Depending on where a person is in life I think we sometimes do live based on our instinct of survival. If a loved one dies, or some other tragedy happens in a persons life that is difficult to cope with, then I believe that instinct does kick in and help us live day to day. Life is wonderful. It is not always easy, but I want to live each day because I like the experiences that life brings.

I suggest you read "Man's Search For Meaning" by Victor Frankl. to answer your question it can never be answered with a general answer. we can not ask why do we live, but rather God asks us to the question of why do we live. ultimately it is to cleanse and strenghtens our soul. Frankl was an atheist who was in Auschwitz but came out of it as a believer in god. here are two quotes that mean something to me. "There is meaning in life, one that keeps one strong, and makes it seem like every punishment one faces is worth the reward, be it a person or thing. Ex. one may live for a wife, daughter, etc. therefore if life has a meaning, so do suffering and death since they are a part of life". i can go on forever but i suggest you read this book. you will be blown away.

Mine is curiosity. I looked suicide in the eye at age 16, depairing of ever finding someone to share my thoughts and feelings with. Curiosity saved me. I wouldn't be too quick to knock survival instinct. And I wouldn't be too quick to look for "reasons" to live. Living seems to provide its own reasons. Joys and sorrows as well.

Who knows.
Who cares.
Why are you so infatuated with it?

Just get by like the rest of us.

There is no "Real" answer, only speculation.
It is a moot point that will never be answered.
It just raises controversy and accomplishes nothing at all.

It is just something with people with too much time on their hands do to cure boredom instead of doing something productive.

Oh, please! It's nothing so dramatic as survival of the race or our future is our children or to leave our mark on the people around us. No. That's stupid stuff. There's a real reason we keep going, day after day, in spite of the KNOWN fact that no matter how hard we try, we're going to eventually die. That reason is: The next season of Smallville.

i live to do what i can to help people, esp. children. Having been sexually abused as a child, i feel the need to be an advocate for children and make their lives better whenever i can.
