Worrying about lack of sleep is the real problem.
Your body needs rest, so forget about sleeping and just lie back and relax. It is ok to watch the thoughts go racing by so do so as if you were standing on a street corner watching the traffic go by. What also helps is doing the relaxing exercise where you instruct each and every small muscle group to relax separately, like each and every toe, finger, etc.
This will help you in other ways you would not suspect.
Works for me.

This won't help tonight but it will in the future, I've had trouble sleeping for sometime now. I've used prescription meds but don't like the possible side effects or possible dependency problems. My daughter gave me the perfect soultion. Melatonin and Valerian root. If you type them into a search engine you'll find out just how they work. They are completly natural with no drugs of any kind. I take two of each about 30 min before bed and I'm asleep almost instantly. I wake refreshed and ready for my day. You may have to experiment to find the best dosage for you. One bad side. The valerian root smells and tastes like badly soured milk but you get used to it quickly. And its worth it cause it works. Sweet dreams. BTW they are both available in the vitamin section of Wal-Mart.

Have you heard of the delta sleep system by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson. Try it. It helps you fall asleep with brain entrainment frequencies behind a blissful musical track.

What do you mean your head is racing? Too much thoughts...?

Are you drinking coffee or sodas? Cut it out. Drink plenty of water. If you are above 35 you might be low in progesterone see source. Do you watch TV at night? Cut it out...to much negativity and action. Raises your adrenaline levels...Do EFT see source.

Is something bothering you...Write and see if your conscience is of? Correct it... If you can not seep do something fun and the next night you will be so tired that you will sleep better. See if you have a negative attitude about “I can not sleep”…It is called self for filling prophecies....Exercise...take a walk enjoy your life. Visualize yourself sleeping and do deep slow breath and count to 20. You can do it. Good luck.
