The greatest "motivator in life" is that which is perceived to ensure survival. For many that is all they know. As a member of Y!A you are more fortunate, but that is still your greatest motivator in life. When survival needs are assured then other needs, primarily personal recognition, take front seat as motivators.

I don't think any of these are "motivators." If you're looking for reasons why people do things -- in each case it's an individual choice as to how to deal with any given situation: However, if I had to choose the virtue that MOST motivates humans, I would say "Honor" or lack thereof.

You can be rich and powerful and be shamed, loved, and feared. But all those could disappear in an instant and what could you fall back on? Hope. I think hope will keep you alive more than any of those.
