This is for a friend who has a hp 640i dvd writer and it would not open up the door. She went to hp and it gave her a test to use to check it.. it told her to unhook from the power and take a paper clip and insert it into a small hole in the front of her computer. This is a manual door opener.. Then reconnect power and see what happened.. She did all of the mentioned steps. The light came on the writer, and the door opened and then the computer quit.. I mean just shut off and will not come back on.. what is up with this computer smart guys.. Help my friend out please!! She is in telephone contact with me and is crying... We need some pc smart people and I know you are out there... please help us!

I do not have a defenitive answer to this question, but i do understand the mechanical release of the dvd door, but still wondering y it killed the pc, worth try open the pc disconnect the cables of the writer from the pc and try starting the pc. Though mechanical releasing of the dvd door shall not kill the driver or the Pc. PC do not turns on even after removing the dvd writer she should check the power supply unit. As i said this might not be a correct answer but just worth a try. Re-catergorize this question to Hardware section some guys out there may b of helpful
