I just recently got my belly button pierced last Wednesday, well my mom told me to put rubbing alcohol on the ring and twist it so it gets in the hole. From my understandings, you're not supposed to to that, but she says it's something that will steilize it. Any input?

Didn't you get material from your piercer? It is a big no-no. It'll sterilize it, but also dry it out. You need to let the natural pus come out and drain. You should also not use Neosporine or peroxide. Go to the store and get antibacterial soap. Wash it twice a day and keep it clean. That's it. If it gets infected, you can start doing sea salt soaks once a day for about 10 minutes. Also, don't ever use cotton balls or Q-tips--the cotton can get caught on your piercing and it acts like a sponge for bacteria.

Definetly not alcohol. It will hurt like heck and it will dry out the piercing. Try using bactracin or even hydrogen peroxide. After that you could put on some neosporin.

It causes knots to form in your ears when you put it on the ear piercings..it would probably do the same for the belly. Try neosporin or the special stuff they make for the ears.
