I was listening to these peoples conversation today and they were talking about gay people not being allowed in the army. Is that true? if it is, how would they know if the person is gay or not, it's not like you have to get a special certificate saying that your gay right?

You are not allowed in the military if you are "openly" gay. There are gays in all the branches of the military. I was in for 22 years and I did know a few who confided with me they were gay (male and female). The Army Times newspaper did an article on gays in the military about 15 years ago. I really doubt that the policy will ever change to let someone in the military if they say they are gay. I myself have no problem with it, but there are reasons why they are not.

The "don't ask, don't tell" will be a huge concern in the 2008 election. Each candidate will promise to abolish it.
The answer to your question is, gays are not allowed in any branch of service. That is where the don't ask, don't tell came from. If you are gay, don't tell. If you are not sure if someone is gay, don't ask.

As of right now, you cannot be open about your gay lifestyle in the Army. The policy is under review and will hopefully be changed

allowed as openly gay? no

but there are plenty of gay men and women who serve this country in silence.

However if they in any way are found acting in a "Gay manner" watching gay porn, going to gay bars, in a relationship with the same sex, etc... then they will be discharged from the military.

it's kinda sad, but true.

They're allowed to fight and die, just not allowed to be gay. Don't ask, don't tell.

Certainly gays are allowed in the military......the straight guys are always looking for new targets to shoot at during rifle training!

The policy is "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". They don't ask, you don't tell.
