The purpose of most of the minor characters was either to enhance the plot or add humor. The nurse, for instance, is hilarious at times, but has no other function.

What a neat question! I think that the smaller characters help show the horrible extent of the feud. It's as if the fight has gotten so out of hand that even the "little people" are being affected--the servants, the friends of the family, the clergy and the apothecary.

helped set the mood of the story.. for ex. juliet's cousin didnt like her dating Romeo; led to there need to get away.. and the story that eventually leads to the tragic ending.

most people miss this, but look for clues that Montecue was either bi, or gay.
