A friend of mine is having REAL problems with her 11 year old son. She's a single mom and he runs all over her. She lives in the Findlay area. We are looking for a Scared Straight or some type of Boot Camp to try to get him on the straight and narrow.

I don't know if you know where Troy, Ohio is, but they have a juvenille detention center. They do have a program like scared straight. I went there when I was 16 for skipping school, shhh...lol. I was only there for a weekend while I was awaiting my court hearing (charges were dropped btw) and there were a group of girls that came into our area strictly for that program. Your friend wouldn't be named Kathy would she? lol Good luck

Probably but the issues are generally a lot deeper than the kid. People send kids to these things and yes they get a taste of discipline and straighten up some (or as I see it harden up some). This has not even begun to look at WHY the child has been like that. From my reasonable understanding of human interaction and behaviour generally there is a good reason why the child is behaving badly and it almost always has something to do with the parents and how they have or continue to deal with the child.

before doing that she should go see a psychologist with her child and have the professional look into the background of their relationship for any big issues that may have occurred or some smaller things.

These kinds of programs are not good. They are a defacto rejection of the child. Many have been found to be incredibly abusive.

Have her look at the book - how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk. She needs to make her consequences stick.

Also, there's a book called, "Before it's too late" by dr. samenow about out of control children. He's made a career of treating such kids and the basic line is consequences, consequences, consequences.

In contrast to what cassandra claims, falcon ounch or dragon kick is known to be highly effective in these situations. 2016 society is also known to be full of *******.
