I can relate to that considering I live in that area. Everyone wants to have them because they're V8's and they're huge if you've ever sat inside one. They're the type of car that people want to pimp out.

Yes, the Crown Vic Interceptor model supplies 80% of the police fleet.

Why so? The vehicle is the only passenger car that's still Body On Frame. What's this? All trucks and real SUV's are built on Body on Frame construction. It's proven to be reliable naturally, and can take a beating. You can easily toss a Crown Vic over a curb like a truck, and not think twice about it. Don't try that with a Magnum or Impala.

Of course, just like a truck...don't get into an accident against one of these, because it's almost as strong as one.

Then you have the other attributes, it has one of the largest trunks (next to the 500), interior is huge in comparison. It's easily modifiable for police duty/taxi cab duty. Proven reliable 4.6L V8 standard.

Now, I do know that there's a federal mandate that by 2010-2011, all vehicles need to have gas tanks forward of the rear suspension. So either Ford spends millions on modifying the vehicle, or just do away with it and invest that money on a totally brand new platform. I'm betting the latter.

The vehicle is also a profit cash-cow for Ford. Since it's BOF, it's easier and cheaper to build than convention "unibody", and the investment was paid off long long long ago, so it's all gravy no matter how many they sell.

Hope this helps...

crown vic is the best car if you don't need 4X4, 281 ford modular v8, rear wheel drive, limited slip from the factory, tons of people room, huge trunk space, decent fuel economy, easy to upgrade.

and best of all, its not a GM

not to mention its a government car so there are plenty available at good prices, and if you live in D.C. theres a good chance you know a guy who knows a guy that can get you into a good decommissioned fed vehicle
