I have an hp pc with Windows XP OS. My girlfriend has the same computer but when she clicks the volume button a bar comes up on the desktop that shows her the sound level. I was wondering how to get that on my computer.

All of the answers I have read before me are all correct, if indeed that is the problem. However, there is one other source that could be the problem if the foregoing do not work.If I have read the above correctly. On the control panel, system is listed. Open it and go to advanced . Click on properties. If you have them set for "best Performance" and not "let Windows decide what is ---etc", the volume bar will not show for this reason.

If you can't find the speaker icon on the task bar, right click it and select properties. Click customize and see if the speaker is selected as always hide or hide when innactive. Click and select always show to display it. Then, you should be able to click the icon once to display the volume bar on the desktop without opening the entire Volume Control window.
