I may just have to pull a John Brown and capture Harper's Ferry. Weapons for the slaves to further their rebellion! Never look back and die a martyr.

I'd do what the Union generals did during the actual Civil War. In the later years of the war, when they realized that the slaves were becoming restive, they encouraged the slaves to desert the plantations and to try to reach the union forces. Generally, the slaves who did so were used to supply labor (paid, I think, a small wage) for the Union forces, and in some case were absorbed into Afro-American regiments. The Union strategists realized that the South didn't have the manpower to maintain an economy since it had to use a larger percentage of its white population to fight, thus draining the economy, and that the South didn't dare give freedom to some of the slaves and arm them to fight in its armies (a plan that was proposed in the Confederacy late in the war, but which was a complete non-starter). Therefore, draining slaves away from the south in advance of actual conquest and occupation would do significant harm without the liabilities that would be incurred if a slave revolt was encouraged (there was a high chance that most of the slaves who rebelled would be killed in a spasm of vengeance) and also, given the varioius anti-black riots and lynchings that took place in New York and other Northern cities, that encouraging the slaves to fight in a slave revolt would fuel the anti-war movements behind Union lines.

You, my young lady, have unleashed a multitude of assumptions, presumptions, and emotions the likes of which you cannot imagine. Please take the time to read the old codes of law concerning slaves and rebellions. It matters not that "you" believe slavery is wrong and many persons will die as a result of the rebellion, for "you" will surely die whether you report the up-coming rebellion or not. "You" will be branded as untrustworthy>>>> in short, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. If you are really interested in slavery-- their confinement, treatment, etc., please go to your local law library and start reading the oldest volumes containing treatment of slaves first, and so on until "you" have the answer to your question. I'm sure you will receive a multitude of answers to your question, but if you haven't researched very old laws and codes, how can you say you are against slavery or that you are decidedly for slavery. I say this, not to skirt the issue, but to ask you to form your OWN conclusion to this. I know this is a hypothetical question, and perhaps, one that you need to do an essay on for homework, but please try to actually" be that person"; if you can do this, you will know how you will react and that reaction will be decisive and done accordingly. I wish you luck on you essay and hope you go to your law library and your public library and satisfy your thirst for knowledge on your subject. Janet
