until japan and the united states went to war, japan had never in it's existence been defeated in any battle. as a mater of fact, japan even drove kublai kahn's army of 50 thousand from there shores in1274 - 1281 a.d. when kahn had taken over all of china.
we had defeated the imperial army and drove them back to there
home land, but they wouldn't surrender. knowing there history and stubbornness ,we would have to invade there home land by
water and on there beaches. the emperor told the Japanese people to fight the Americans with what ever they had at hand,
rocks, pitch forked, sticks, clubs, bare hands. the u.s. military
estimated our casualties would exceed 20,000 at least. and japan would fair even worse. that's when president harry Truman decided to use the atom bomb on Hiroshima. even then japan would not surrender. it took another atom bomb, dropped on Nagasaki for them to realize it was all over. it was the first time they were ever defeated.
