After turning the laptop on, you should hear the fan kick in inside, run for a few seconds, then stop. When it quiets, hold F8, this will take you to the 'startup options' screen where there will be a list of ways to startup. One of these will be safe mode. Somtimes there will be other options like 'safe mode w/ command prompt' or 'safe mode w/ networking' but in general, you want just regular safe mode. Just pick safe mode and go from there. On some laptops, after picking safe mode, another menu will come up asking you which operating system you want to use (or at least it does on mine). If that happens just pick windows.
Good luck, hope it works.

When you hit the power button, try either F8, F5, or F3 to bring up some white text on a black background. I'm not sure which button it is because it varies between PC's. One of the options that shows is Safe Mode, so select it and hit enter.

When starting your computer hit the "F2" key to bring up the computer bios so you can switch to safe mode. And good luck with Windows Vista, a lot of people are experiencing problems with that new OS.
