I don't think the Mets will win the World Series with the pitching they have. They might make the playoffs.

I think the Mets rotation is underrated. They have young pitchers such as Mike Pelfrey, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Jason Vargas among others who have good potential. If one or two of them is able to pick their game up along with a veteran like Chan Ho Park at the back of the rotation the Mets rotation should be able to survive until the return of Pedro Martinez or a pitcher via trade. While their rotation has question marks there bullpen is one of the best and deepest in baseball and can bail out the rotation. The lineup is arguably the best in the National League. The Mets have a very good chance at repeating as NL East champions and going far into if not all the way in the playoffs

Anyone who says they don't see the Mets competing because of their starting rotation doesn't know anything about the Mets. Their pitching staff is built backwards. They rely on their bullpen to carry them, not their starters. Their starting rotation will prove to be better than expected with many talented youngsters waiting to blossom (Vargas, Pelfrey, Humber, Perez, Maine).
Their bullpen was the best in the majors last year and should be at the top again. I look at the NL and still consider them the best team and I think their chances are better than anyone else in the NL of making the world series. I'd be very suprised if they miss the playoffs.

Well if they do make it to the world series it will be because our lineup carries us there. There were just too many injuries to deal with last year and using 13 different pitchers. With Moises Alou added to the lineup over banged up Cliff Floyd and giving protection in the lineup to David Wright and adding that element we were missing last year being able to hit lefty pitchers that's huge.
As for pitching I see our rotation as this before the playoffs start:
Pedro
Glavine
El Duque
Maine
Pelfrey
That's a good enough rotation to be able to help us win a ring.We have the hitting and we'll have good enough pitching so we have as good a shot at winning a championship this year as anyone in the NL.

They may not be able to get out of the division with the Braves b/c they have no pitching. A lot of people dogged the Brave for not stacking the lineup and bringing new guys in to put up #'s, but if the Braves rotation pitches well, the bullpen will carry them, and the offesive #'s won't have to be up. We have seen what happens when your pitching dominates with the Houston Astros a few years ago. They had no offense really, but they could pitch a baseball. IDK, if the Mets find them a Justin Verlander or Andrew Miller in one of there prospects (which is highly doubtful) they have a good shot. But w/o Pedro being Pedro, and the ace of your staff being Tom Glavine and no one after that, they will have to score a lot of runs which they are capable of doing, but the ? there is will they be able to score enough?

I think if they make the playoffs, then they have a shot at the whole thing. With their pitching question marks making the playoffs is the hardest part. If they make the playoffs then pitching won't be as much of a question mark because it is shorter series.

They won't make the playoffs if it's left up to the pitching staff. They will need to score a bunch of runs like last year.
They will be a wild card team at best this year.

I really think this is the year for the Phillies to came around and live up to their potential by winning the division and going to the World Series where they will lose to the Red Sox. The Mets?? Maybe 2nd or even 3rd place in their division.
Chow!!

I think the mets will make the playoffs because they are going to figure their pitching out,the lineup and bullpen are going to get better.

I don't think their pitching is good enough. They may win their division, but I don't think they can go all the way.
As long as the Cardinals don't win the Central this year - I will be happy.
