normally i would say that it means crossing the street illegally by not using the crosswalk...HOWEVER a couple students of mine were using that word and awful lot the other day and really laughinh hysterically about it, so I wonder if it has a new slang meaning now too.
I was under the impression by what they were saying, that it might mean "working the corner" or being a corner prostitute.
However I am just guessing.

it means to walk across the street without using a cross walk or having a crossing guard

To cross a street or road carelessly without regard for traffic or pedestrian regulations. The terms comes from the pattern formed when people start to cross the road and have to made a sudden dash back to the curb, thus forming a "J"
