Very few look like people are made to look in Hollywood. In our movies, we like to see people who are generally fairly attractive, especially in feel-good movies like "Pretty Woman". There's also got to be an air of believability; if Richard Gere is going to fall in love with her, and moreover, pass her off as a respectable female companion, she needs to be at least a little good-looking.
And I'm sure there are attractive prostitutes; they're just not the majority, or they're much higher-class than the common streetwalker.
Some movies do delve into the grit of prostitution, though; see "Monster" with Charlize Theron.
